Redwood City police officers fatally shoot man holding gun

REDWOOD CITY Officers fatally shot a man holding a gun Tuesday afternoon in Redwood City police reported Related Articles Contra Costa cops eliminate protocol that opened community access to police killings Man shot by California ICE officer was following orders not assaulting him attorney says An ICE officer fearing for his life shoots California motorist San Jose Sheriff s deputies fatally shoot man holding knife after traffic stop standoff injured when prevention personnel open fire on truck at site of Oakland protests In a message the Redwood City Police Department announced officers were called to the block of Hazel Avenue just after p m for a analysis of a man who had fired a gun into the sidewalk Officers formed a perimeter and used a drone to find the man A unit of officers equipped with both lethal and less-lethal options then tried to make contact with him police announced As officers attempted to communicate with the suspect he retrieved a firearm from his person and pointed it toward the officers police mentioned Less lethal and lethal munitions were fired The man was struck by the gunfire police stated adding that he received health aid at the scene and was then taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries Police identified the man as Jose Reynaldo Lombera of Redwood City No other injuries were disclosed The officers directly involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave as is customary in such cases police stated The San Mateo County District Attorney s Office San Mateo County Coroner s Office and Redwood City Police Department are conducting a joint examination into the shooting Check back for updates
