Kevin Gates concert attendee fights Boston cops, tries to grab service pistol, police say

Two men were arrested after a violent struggle including allegedly assaulting police officers and almost grabbing one of their guns outside MGM Music Hall at Fenway Wednesday night Boston Police Department officers working a paid detail helped safeguard remove -year-old Edwin Rivera of Mashpee from the Lansdowne Street venue According to its schedule MGM was hosting Louisiana rapper Kevin Gates for his Amilio Tour Police say however that Rivera was not going out without a fight and became increasingly combative towards officers As the officers and Rivera reached the street Rivera threw a beverage and swung at an officer then grabbed onto the officer s jacket according to a BPD declaration At one point police say Rivera reached for an officer s gun and knocked away the officer s radio before police could get him to the ground and cuff him During that police say Steven Costa of Hyannis got himself involved and started yelling and attempting to strike the officers as they struggled with Rivera The BPD says he refused to stop and officers resorted to tasing him in order to arrest him The two men face charges of assault and battery on a police officer resisting arrest intimidation of a police officer disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace Costa faces an additional charge of interfering with a police officer Rivera faces additional charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a police officer and attempting to disarm a police officer They are scheduled for arraignment at municipal court in Roxbury This is a evolving story An MGM Music Hall attendee at a performance of rapper Kevin Gates seen here at the BET Awards at Peacock Theater in June in Los Angeles got into a violent interaction with Boston police the department says Photo by Paras Griffin Getty Images for BET
