Josh McDaniels raves about Drake Maye’s ‘fantastic’ improvement, intangibles

FOXBORO Drake Maye and Josh McDaniels still are in the early days of their all-important quarterback play-caller relationship But McDaniels believes they re off to an excellent start The Patriots offensive coordinator raved Thursday about Maye s ability to decipher and convey what he sees on the field He s already seen noticeable improvement from the second-year QB McDaniels reported and expects that trend to continue He s as easy to talk to as anybody we have McDaniels commented when appealed about the process of building a competition relationship with Maye He sees the competition very very well The conversations you have are accurate If you ask him a question you re going to get the right answer It s not maybe the best answer that we could have done but he knows exactly what took place on the field and he s unfailingly honest Very informative wants to do it the right way takes coaching extremely well I don t know what else I can say fantastic to answer your question I love his approach from day to day His process is never-ending and inevitably evolving in terms of his improvement He got better from Week to Week I hope he gets better from Week to Week and continues to do that every day And with the way he goes about it I think we have a realistic shot at doing that And the list is long He knows that and he loves that I really enjoy working with him Maye played the most of complete contest of his young NFL career last week completing of passes for yards and two touchdowns in a - road win over the Miami Dolphins This Sunday he and the Patriots will face a susceptible Pittsburgh Steelers defense that enters Week ranked th in points allowed th in EPA play and th in total defense yards allowed per play and yards allowed per pass attempt
