Footage from a sheriff s helicopter shows the moment before deputies fired on Victor Rendon File photo from Critical Occurrence Video courtesy of SDSO The family of a man who was shot and killed by deputies in Spring Valley has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against San Diego County and the personnel involved The lawsuit filed Monday in San Diego federal court seeks at least million in damages Attorneys allege that Victor Rendon Jr was suffering from severe mental strength issues that should have resulted in dispatching a psychiatric crisis response organization rather than deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff s Office after was called Rendon s ex-girlfriend s reported officers that Rendon manifested up uninvited at her residence and entered through a back door armed with a pistol and acting erratically according to the San Diego Police Department SDPD investigated the Nov shooting under the terms of a agreement designed to avoid conflicts of interest The woman also informed deputies that Rendon suffered from mental fitness issues according to police who declared he fired the gun a limited times before exiting the home Investigators stated he pointed the gun at deputies while the lawsuit alleges Rendon was bringing the gun up to his own head then was shot around a dozen times Seven deputies opened fire discharging at least rounds total according to the lawsuit The complaint contends Rendon did not pose a threat to the deputies or anyone else and that law enforcement ignored indications that he required mental robustness intervention The deputies involved and their SDSO assignments are Darryl Patmon K- Evan Carey and Frank Spinelli Rancho San Diego patrol Chalit Carranto and Thomas Cook San Marcos patrol and Derek Trumbo and Manuel Zamora Lemon Grove patrol and traffic
